International cinema, year round
Rated this place:
Located in the northeastern corner of the AGO, Cinematheque Ontario (one of the Toronto International Film Festival Group's properties) makes its cozy little home in Jackman Hall. Four annual seasons of creatively curated film selections span the entire spectrum from the latest in international (and Canadian) festival hits to old classics, from Hollywood and beyond.
The theatre isn't huge, and some of the more popular films can sell out pretty quick, but an annual membership (and the member prices for actual screenings) are quite reasonable, and give you the jump on the regular public when a new programme is announced.
Be warned though - this is no ordinary theatre. No food or drinks are allowed in Jackman hall, with the exception of bottled water. Conscientious ushers absolutely will stop you if you try to sneak in a coffee or some takeout, so leave it at the door.
