moes

Rated this place:

This place's staff consists of so many lovable people. They're always smiling - making eating at moes a pleasant experience. At moes you can eat whatever you want at any time you want. There are no breakfast time restrictions so you don't have to rush for anything. Moe's food is a variety of Casse Croute food, Greek food, basically anything you want. If you're in a hurry and want a good bite, go to moes

A Montreal classic

“Moe’s” Casse-croûte du Coin

Often referred to as “Moe’s”, this small 24-hour casse-croute/diner is located at the corner of Lambert Closse and de Maisonneuve, tucked away in the basement of an apartment building. One of Montreal’s most classic hidden gems, Moe’s has been running since the 1950’s – and not much has changed. I understand it was quite hopping during the long-forgotten glory days of the Old Montreal forum, however now Moe’s is home to seasoned regulars, students, and twentysomethings with wicked hangovers. The Grand-slam breakfast, with 3 eggs, 2 sausages plus bacon or ham, French toast or pancakes, homefries, toast and coffee is a tour de force, and I understand the Breakfast club with poutine is great for those with big appetites and low cholesterol. Pancakes are fluffy and generous, and the milkshakes (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, banana...) are a hit. Many selections run well under $10, and are served with the usual mild, delicious, cheap diner coffee. Each table is equipped with a mostly decorative jukebox and a giant tube of maple syrup, and if you look really hard, you can glimpse a hint of the light of day in between the overgrown plants that line the dusty windows above you. Moe’s retains a certain lived-in je ne sais quoi that only comes with restaurants that existed pre-smoking ban. A must see for anyone trying to get a true Montreal experience.

24-hour greasy spoon

Rated this place:

No matter when it is, you can get a Big Ed (signature double-cheeseburger) and a Poutine. Or a grand slam breakfast. At 4 am if you like. Classic decor including old jukeboxes.
