Authentic BBQ

Rated this place:

I lived in Memphis for a year and this place is on par with restaurants there... if not better. I loved the beef brisket! I will definitely be back.

Amazing Pulled Pork Southern Sandwich

Rated this place:

I agree with @davebobak. Great portion sizes and tremendous value relative to other downtown sandwich places. I also enjoyed the smell and decor of the place. The Yukon Gold Fries are a must try even though I thought it might have been a bit on the expensive side. One additional thing, they have extremely courteous staff :)

Total Disappointment

Rated this place:

Decided to try this place last night with my girlfriend and it turned out to be a big mistake. The first bad sign, we were the only one's in there. Rap music was blaring throughout the restaurant - we had to ask them to turn it down. I saw a menu posted on the door as we were walking in and thought I would give the Mac & Cheese a try. When ordering I was told they had to take the Mac & Cheese off the menu due to consistency problems. This was the second bad sign. We should have left right then. If you wanna call yourself a Southern style restaurant you gotta have a decent Mac & Cheese right??? So we decide to order, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries and my girlfirend ordered the smoked turkey wrap a small side of the beans and a cornbread muffin. Where do I start?? The pulled pork was terrible. It was cold, it was really dry and there was no flavour whatsoever. I put it down after one bite. The fries were also cold, undercooked and soggy. I'm not sure what type of seasoning they put on the fries but they tasted awful. My girlfriends food was also cold. She said the turkey wrap was okay but the beans and the cornbread muffin were inedible. I finally got our servers attention and explained the problems with the food. She came back saying the manager would be happy to give up a full refund. Although we were extremely happy about the refund, we will not be going back to Lou Dawg's. If you want a pulled pork sandwich go to Reggie's a few doors down.

Lou Dawg's

There's a new kid on the King-Portland block - and so far, so good. Lou Dawgs is the newest restaurant to cater to busy lunch-goers and night owls alike, offering a number of tasty barbecued and southern comfort food until the wee hours of the morning (open until 2am). Since its debut this week, Lou Dawgs has been drawing in a steady crowd eager to try their smokey and southern barbecue sauces, coleslaw (made with cranberries) and paprika-infused Yukon Gold mashed potatoes. I opted for the smoked turkey wrap for $8, made with large chunks of fresh turkey, tomatoes, lettuce, provolone, and a delicious mayo-barbecue concoction. I wasn't ecstatic, however, about the surprise bacon guest appearance in my wrap, which was left unmentioned both on the menu wall and by my cashier. Even still, with its intimate, basement-chic decor and southern accents (like a live blues band) Lou Dawgs has all the right ingredients for success.
