Munch- Family Restaurant

Rated this place:

This a parent's paradise, and worth my time and energy to pack two 3yr old's into the car to drive to the North Van. I had read only one review and peaked at the website before I set off. I didn't really have a solid idea of where I was going or what to expect. It was better than what I could ever have conceived a "family" restaurant to be. This is what a child friendly restaurant should be. A family doesn't have to fight, scheme and jostle for seating position, all seats have a view of the ample, well thought out, clean play area. Kids get to be kids! There is child friendly seating (the eames style chairs are great for small bottoms), more than two high chairs (I think I counted 5, but could have been more in use), and cozy booths as well as patio seating. The menu was brilliant, with adult dishes and adult drinks- quite often lacking at child geared establishments, all with fresh thoughtful ingredients (most looked to be local and or organic). Children's menu was fresh with healthy updates of the classics, no fried foods! One thing to note, the turkey hot dogs that I ordered did not come with any condiments- with so many fresh and inventive dips these days I saw potential for growth there- kids love Dip, it makes food fun, especially if they get to add it. I had a vegetable stir fry that was simple, clean and complex all rolled into one. Everything was well prepared, well presented and pack full of flavour. I appreciated the ability to have wine with dinner but want more selection- The wine list had some very nice local choices but all the ones I really wanted were only available by the bottle and as I was there with my children a bottle wasn't appropriate. So often in child friendly restaurants the servers are put out by parental request for their children I did not find that so here and this put me at ease. One last little touch that I especially appreciated were the mini toilets in the bathroom the little people, because that is why we where there.

Munch Family Restaurant

Rated this place:

This used to be Babyeats - it is now a full-service restaurant with a liquor license! It still has the awesome play area that Babyeats had, but it now has a full compliment of grown-up food (and great little people menu too). They also have a patio out front and are offering in-restaurant Nanny service on weekends (need reservation for that). It is definitely worth a visit.
