Kubo closed it's doors months ago and a crappy, pseudo-Irish "pub" has opened in it's place. Boo!

Kubo Radio - CLOSED

Nestled in Leslieville, Kubo Radio is a cozy Asian Pub and Eatery with a comfy, creative vibe. Kubo offers $3 pints, friendly service, and an amazing menu, as well as catering and delivery. We took refuge on a windy Thursday night, and were instantly warmed up by the red-and-black decor and candelit atmosphere. Sitting pretty at a high window table near the sweeping velvet curtains that block drafts from entering with customers, we split a plate of 'Wham, Bam, Thank You Yam!,' ($6.95) delicious sweet potato dumplings served piping hot with crispy dough and a maple-ginger glaze. The 'F.O.B' ($13.95) Vegetarian Chow Mein, was flavourful and packed with veggies, and the 'Ice Ice Baby' ($13.95) Vanilla Thai Curry was sweet and unexpected. The only disappointment of the meal was that they were out of the Curry Vegetable Roti, but that gives us an excuse to return to this cozy east-end eatery. With a large menu full of veggie and meat options, like Peking Duck, Jerk Chicken Stew, and Striploin with Beet Chips, this restaurant takes comfort food to an exotic new level. This is the perfect place for a relaxed dinner with an old friend, or a good creative choice to impress a first date.

Cupcakes

Rated this place:

We used to be fans of the cupcake shoppe because they have a cute little shop and pretty cupcakes. But I would give it to Babycakes for sure on flavor. If you get them on the day they were made they are very good. All flavors were very good and the cake was very moist. Although I dont like that they refrigerate them after they have been baked, it doesnt effect the flavor or good texture. enjoy!

Asian-inspired beef burrito, Pastry dessert, Pumpkin cupcake, Shrimp dumplings

Rated this place:

Mexican meets Thai and Japanese in this creative take on Tex-Mex standard. Aromatic green curry, cubes of tender beef and jasmine rice are wrapped in tender bean curd skin with delicious results. The portion is very generous, so it's great for sharing. Or including in a selection of other choices from the menu of creative and tasty nouveau Asian offerings.

The "Kubo Flakey" takes the Vachon idea out of the lunch box and into the bistro. A tower of crisp phyllo squares, layered with fresh whipped cream and ruptured berries, dusted with powdered sugar and set off by a sweet-tart citrus sauce is worth every bite.

Awash in cupcake-triggered images of gradeschool birthday parties, EasyBake ovens and Betty Crocker kitchen kitsch, I bit into my first-ever generously frosted Babycake the other week. Mmmmm! Under that cutie homestyle exterior lay flavour sophistication and moist cake to rival any fancy gateau. Mine was perfectly spiced pumpkin, with tangy cream cheese icing. I was very vocal about its deliciousness. My friend announced impending Babycake addiction. With so many more to try, this is likely.

The har gow here are super. Great wasabi ginger dipping sauce. Great shrimp and scallion filling.

The menu has a lot of selection! I highly recommend the Chicken Sui Mei My Foot dumplings! You can also expand your beer tasting among a variety of asian beers and they are all decently priced!!
