Suck it, hipsters

Rated this place:

For better or worse, I have neither a beard nor bangs. My glasses are subtle, my pants reasonably loose and my closet is devoid of flannel. Man, did I get a ton of cut-eye from douchebags on my way in. It really wasn't worth it for some okay-ish food and a long-ass wait.

retro charm

Rated this place:

Guaranteed line-ups can dissuade many, but hard core fans of Aunties & Uncles still flock to this hipster hangout for weekend brunch (especially on a nice day when the patio beckons.A charmingly eclectic vibe with retro touches matches the comfort factor of the delicious menu. The breakfast sandwich served up with their herb-heavy potato salad hits the spot but my favourite is the fluffy yet crispy french toast with poached pears.

It is a tiny joint with good service and amazing food. French toast is excellent there. I love visiting here for my brunch.

Brunch

Rated this place:

Located at College and Lippincott, Aunties and Uncles is not impressive from the outside. It's a tiny joint and the sidewalk patio consists of a few old picnic tables and umbrellas. This place is all about great food and not about impressing you at first glance. The food is always fresh and very good. I really like the omelettes and French toast. It's also a trendy spot for locals in the neighbourhood.

Hot Brunch Spot

Rated this place:

Aunties & Uncles

One of Toronto’s best (and most popular) casual brunch spots, by far. The food is always cooked to perfection – even when the joint is busy – the atmosphere is really laid back, service is without pretention (though may come across as a bit grumpy) and the décor is fun (as there’s lots of cute little retro accents and nicknacks to check out while you wait). I really dig the cold dill potato salad that comes with the standard breakie, the bread’s always fresh and the espresso’s not bad. Good luck getting a seat at this place on the weekend, though.

Just like your cousins' parents used to make

Rated this place:

Always busy on the weekend, this brunch spot has a large patio (I've never been inside -- I only go in the summer, apparently) and delicious omelets. The servers are stressed but efficient, but really it's all about the overheard conversations.
