Mother's Day: Beyond Brunch- Live Music Show

Rated this place:

Horseshoe Tavern

Get a babysitter or leave your partner at home with the kids and head out to the Horseshoe with some friends to catch kick-ass girls group and critic's darlings, Vivian Girls at the Horseshoe for some music therapy. You will feel so. good. Because they are awesome. Make sure you thrash around and toss your hair a reasonable amount for full restorative effect.

Horeshoe

Rated this place:

The "Shoe" embodies what I love best about Toronto - the gritty, awesome music scene, real people and access to easy cabs.

A night at The 'Shoe

Rated this place:

The Horseshoe has been around since 1947, which makes it one of the best “if these walls could talk” places to see a band. You could try and list all the famous bands that have performed on the stage at The Horseshoe, but it might be easier to list all the famous bands that haven’t played here. Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point. The Horseshoe always has a great mix of new talent and old favourites. And it is the perfect place to go if you think all live music venues should be a little gritty … in a good way.

Good vibes, great music

Rated this place:

Horseshoe Tavern

I struggle with the larger bars in the city that play music. For whatever reason, I just don't enjoy going to a lot of them. The Horseshoe Tavern is one blessed medium-sized exception to this rule. It's pretty much the only place in the 300+ capacity range that I genuinely enjoy and always have a good time at.

I like the front room / back room divide that allows the regular bar patrons to hang out uninterrupted while the live music blares on in the back. I like the stage (not too high), the staff, and moreover, the bands that often play there. I got to see my favourite now-defunct local band there on a number of occasions (Jon-rae and the River) as well as a number of old school favourites (Mission of Burma).

The Shoe has been around for ages, and somehow it has always managed to retain the same comfortable, casual atmosphere and no-nonsense vibe, while other places are ruined by attempts to become hipper, cooler or more upscale.

A Toronto Legend

Rated this place:

Any place with “The Legendary…” often preceding its name is worth writing about. You can smell the musical history in this room and, yes, musical history does smell like old beer. And, more recently, you can see it as well on a wall-mounted scrapbook of photos, clipping, stubs and set lists. Sure, you can still catch top acts rolling through town, but consider the front bar on its own as a great stop for after work beers or a pre-night warm up.

Live music venue

Rated this place:

Originally, the Horseshoe was a country music haven, but with time it began to cater to other musical tastes. In the '80s it was a favourite haunt for anyone who was anyone in the Toronto punk scene.ore recently, it has dropped its admission fee on Tuesdays to accommodate the 102.1 The Edge-sponsored Nu Music nights. And with a pristine sound system and 350-person capacity in the live music back room, the Horseshoe continues to draw important international acts...
