Steak

Rated this place:

When you first see this place, you sort of question why people love it. Decorated with the cheesy, typical Chinese writing stating "House of Chan" with a red flashing light, you just can't help thinking this place is sketchy. You walk in, waiters are dressed in the typical tie and vest. Place is painted red with a few touches of Asian images and typical bamboo. It's also quite small. However, if you order this steak - you won't be disappointed. I don't eat steak myself, but my friends who are absolute steak-lovers said it was amazing. I ordered the lobster & shrimp dish and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was impeccable too.

Welcome to House Of Chan

Rated this place:

Here’s a piece of Forest Hill history. The way I understand it, a tight crew of friends, who lovingly frequented this Chinese surf and turf emporium throughout their childhood and young adult life, all pitched in to provide a bailout when the establishment threatened to go under.Surely not the best steak house in town, but it’s damn good and it’s the vibe that holds things together. Dimly lit with some relief provided by the glow of the in house lobster tank, sharply suited waiters and some very special fixings combine to define the establishments’ unique charm. These include plates of crispy, fried onions and potatoes along with hot mustard and the best plum sauce around. Now listen close: mix some mustard in with the plum sauce, take a fork full of fried onions, spear some meat, dip and eat. Welcome to House Of Chan.Although there is a full Asian menu, I’d recommend sticking with the meat and seafood. See you there…

Awesome Steaks, Cheesy Old-School Decor

Rated this place:

House of Chan has some of the best steaks in the city, though you wouldn't be able to tell it from the outside. Some of the cheesiest old school chinese decor you'll see, but their steak is really great - I recommend the ribeye for the best taste and texture.

Steak

Rated this place:

My dad first took me to this spot, back in the 80s. I remember hearing tell of HOC's high-security meat lockers, where they'd store their extra-special U.S. corn-fed beef, of a grade higher than was then available in Canada. Not sure if any of that is true, but this is: the steak is mouth-watering and perfect. You get the meat a la carte, but you can fill out your meal with more than just the complimentary Chinese noodles: the crispy fried onions and thinly sliced potatoes are excellent choices.

Steak

Rated this place:

It's one of the best steaks in the city, hands down. The steak is tender and flavourful and seriously filling. But don't just fill up on the meat - the Asian-inspired side dishes are all part of the experience. Pair your steak with Chinese goodies like Lo Mein and stir-fried veggies. The potatoes are also spectacular. This midtown steakhouse is certainly worth a visit.
