The dessert case will kill you
Rated this place:
I remember the first time I walked into My Market Bakery for a chocolate croissant (when it stood where the evil Cobs Bakery resides today), I took a whiff of the fragrant bakery aroma and I almost cried - it was so beautiful. Even today, I always step inside for a few moments to sniff at the delicious goodies that sit around the shop.
Everything is made in the shop by the family who owns the bakery - they've been doing it for years here at their Kensington Market shop. Artisanal breads like olive loafs, French baguettes, rolls, kaisers and egg bread are made fresh in the back. Montreal bagels and super-cheese bagels are a favourite of mine for making lunch during the week. They've also got raw pizza dough made daily for you to take home to make (and throw in the air).
But - it's the dessert case at My Market Bakery that will win you over. Animal and monster cookies with icing for kids, tarts with fruit-filling, shortbreads, gingerbread, birthday cakes, huge slab cakes, pies, apple crumbles, cheesecakes, chocolate cakes, fruit cakes - and my favourite, a triple chocolate fudge brownie square (throw it in the microwave for 7 seconds for velvety beautiful bites of sinful chocolate). My Market Bakery is a "must" visit when you're in Kensington!
