Sweet potato fries

Rated this place:

Big, juicy sweet potato fries, with the best hot sauce ever. rumour is that the woman who makes it is very ill...let's hope she gets better soon!

hidden cafe

Rated this place:

Old York Restaurant & Tavern is located on a quiet side street at the corner of Niagara and Wellington. It's a local hangout that serves diner style food like burgers and fries, along with an excellent weekend brunch menu. I always order their big gourmet omelettes (and add a bit of Old York's homemade sauce). I love the quaint patio, especially on a sunny day or warm evening. It's a great spot to relax and enjoy a few beers with friends.

A local bar in a bustling neighbourhood

Rated this place:

This place is really nice, totally out of the way, and feels like you're not at all in the middle of bustling downtown Toronto. It's tucked away on Niagara just south of King and feels like an awesome neighbourhood local.

The wings are great, as are the soups, and just generally it's a nice place to sit and have a drink with friends. Reasonable prices, friendly atmosphere, and doesn't get as insanely crowded as you might expect for a place that's not so huge. Definitely beats every other King Street joint in that zone for comfortable ambiance and a generally great vibe. Also: great fries.
