Quack & Track!

Rated this place:

La Palette

Went to La Palette for a birthday dinner recently (and for the first time in ages) and was delighted to find that the food had only gotten more delicious over the past couple of years. I had a foie gras appetizer and my dining companion tried the escargot. both perfectly tender and flavourful. I followed with the "Quack & Track" main course - a half horse (tender, juicy, and just a bit more gamey tasting than a good cut of beef) and half duck (perhaps the best duck I've ever had) concoction that was so delicious and filling I hardly had any room for dessert. I did manage to order the Crème Brulee Trilogy, which I didn't regret for even a second. Romantic, cozy and incredibly tasty, this small Kensington Market restaurant gets top marks for every portion of the menu. Plus, their carbon free cooking / local food policies make it a very ecologically sound option.

French bistro

Rated this place:

La Palette

When the menu includes things like Horse Tenderloin and Rose Water Cassis Crème Brûlée, let's face it, it'll cost you (entrees will run you about 25 bucks and up). But the food is good. Period. (Crème Brulee Trilogy, pictured at right) Menu changes seasonally, which is annoying, or opportune, depending on how you look at it.

Bistro

Rated this place:

A few glasses of wine and some pre-dinner trickery could have convinced me I was back in Paris. Very cute little restaurant in Kensington that had all the best that you'd find in a Montmartre bistro - except with friendly waiters

Bolonaise, Steak frites

Rated this place:

The pasta was SO fresh and made from scratch and the meat/tomato sauce was also so full of a multitude of flavours. Plus it was cozy to have on a cold winter's eve.

B/c everything about it is delicious, from the crispiness of the thin fries to the sundried tomato butter on top of the steak...

Steak frites

Rated this place:

Sundried tomato butter is incredible. The frites and aioli complete the experience. Great patio to watch the buzz of Kensington market too.
