Movie theatre

Rated this place:

It's only $6 to see classic (and soon-to-be classic movies)! Plus the audio and sound quality is great and all their treats are reasonable priced (especially when you compare to Cineplex).

Revue Cinema

Everything about the Revue is so adorable. It's a community run non-profit, it's a second run art-house cinema in a cool neighbourhood, and it's been around for about a hundred years. The folks who run it (the Revue Film Society) do a solid job programming fun stuff. Plus, since it was renovated and reopened, it's cushy, comfy and very inviting.

Member tickets are only $6.50, and they have a $5 deal on Tuesdays that reminds me of the days when Tuesday nights at the movies were actually cheap as opposed to just slightly less expensive than usual.

Historic Silver Screen

Rated this place:

Boasting a mammoth screen and booming sound system, the punch packed by the unsuspecting Revue is a welcome surprise. But the real treat here is a rich history. Operating since 1912, the theater is now privately owned and leased to the community-based Revue Film Society. The movie houses’ comprehensive website is worth looking at if you’re interested in things past and what lays in store for this west end landmark. Bonus: best theater popcorn I’ve ever had.

Movie theatre

Rated this place:

There are several things I love about the Revue: 1. the community rallied together to save it and it's now run not-for-profit by people authentically committed to your entertainment 2. the coconunt-oil-popped corn, with real butter, is AWESOME 3. the large screen and wicked sound system paired with the 1911-style theatre aesthetic make me happy as a clam. Oh ya, and that not-for-profit thing? It means tickets are cheap. And the ads they play before the show? Neighbourhood businesses. Nice.

Movie theatre

Rated this place:

Really comfortable seats, not too loud, approachable film geeks at the counter, and people actually shut up during the movies. It's delightful.

Cinema

Rated this place:

They recently re-opened this great venue that plays older movies. It's just a fun place to be to escape the noise of the city.
