The city's most accessible jazz bar
Rated this place:
Once apon a time, Toronto had a number of high-profile established jazz clubs: George's, Top of the Senator, Montreal Bistro, etc. All have since closed. At the time, the Rex was a divey joint; it has since been renovated. It hasn't filled their shoes, not exactly -- it certainly doesn't have the cachet (or prices) that the Senator did -- but it fills an equally important role, encouraging young and emerging musicians and music lovers, as well as die-hards. Plus, there's music at almost any time of day. (Great food rounds out the package.)
