Organic one stop shop

Rated this place:

I can buy my favourite “Shasha” Spelt bread and Gingersnap cookies, vitamins, all natural body care, and meet friends at the juice bar. And the best part, everyone that works there is soooo friendly!

Eco-Friendly

Alternative to Commercial Supermarkets

Rated this place:

Aside from offering the finest selection in organic and healthy products, you'll find a full produce and meat department, a wholistic dispensary and a juice bar at the Carrot. The amazing thing is that The Big Carrot is a worker-co-op - their website currently claims that there are over 60 worker/owners. Which, in my opinion must be part of the reason that you can actually get great service here...and get questions answered. So, whether you can walk to shop along the Danforth (lucky you!), or if you need to drive a distance to get to the Carrot, it's worth it...consider it a diversion (like an outing to the museum or art gallery) where you will probably find at least one of your soon-to-be favoruite products, from lipstick and hairbrushes to potato chips and local potatoes, you'll find it all. They offer weekly specials and many classes and seminars, so check their website for complete up-to-date details. Of course, remember to bring your reusable bags. See Full Post

The Big Carrot

Rated this place:

Big Carrot Natural Food Market

The Big Carrot is a great place to do your organic and natural food shopping. They only sell non-GMO products so I feel confident buying organic or conventional groceries there. It is apart of Carrot Common, a friendly neighborhood area with a healthy vibe! Located on the Danforth, close to many other shops and restaurants, as well as being just a 2-minute walk from Chester subway station. It can be a one-stop shop for all your needs: supplements, natural and organic meats, organic and local produce, and natural health and beauty products as well as a vegetarian deli. They have a juice bar selling juices, smoothies, coffee, sandwiches and salads. Stop in for a quick lunch or dinner when you don’t have time to cook. Super dishes that you wouldn’t make at home like seaweed salads!

More than just a carrot on a stick

Rated this place:

Big Carrot Natural Food Market

I love this place because it’s stocked to the gills with stuff that can otherwise be kind of hard to find in my folks' neighbourhood, where I often visit (and shop). Things like gluten free cereal and sheep’s milk cheddar. But of course this complex is more than just a grocery store. They also stock things like cookbooks and top of the line juicers (I recently got an Omega juicer there which I’ve been using daily). Mostly I like it because it’s so big and airy, with a café and juice bar attached, so that every shopping experience feels luxurious and fancy, when all the while you’re supporting local farmers, sustainable fisheries and fair trade operations. They even have eco-friendly deli containers.

Juice bar

Rated this place:

I usually go to The Natural Food Depot for my organic needs so I come to big carrot for a fix of my organic lunch and organic juice. My favorite is Feeling Smooth which has Apple, Pear, Celery and Ginger and it all goes down easy.
