An old school movie experience

The programming at the Bloor has been really good lately. In addition to the usual second run films that filter through from the major chains, they also have special events, one offs, and they host the Rue Morgue Cinemacabre movie nights on the third Thursday of every month (last November Cinemacabre played one of my favourite little-seen films of the year, a horror/western hybrid called The Burrowers).

The Bloor also hosts about a zillion small festivals and groups throughout the year, so there's just as good a chance that you'll see a recent Hollywood hit on the marquee as a Serbian film fest. Awesome.

Dirty country with larry pierce live november 9th and 10th

Toronto is gonna get down and dirty with Larry Pierce live, at the theatrical launch of DIRTY COUNTRY, opening November 9th at the Bloor Cinema for an exclusive theatrical engagement. The heralded King of Dirty Music will perform two live, unplugged shows on November 9th and 10th after each of the 9:30 p.m. screenings. This will be Larry’s International performance debut. When's the last time you went to the movie theatre and you saw: a) curtains b) a balcony c) small cushiony seats? You can find all of the above here, and the nostalgic feel is cool when the average moviegoing experience tends to be about blunt force (big sound, big screen, no substance).

Rue Morgue Cinemacabres are the best part of the month! And the Bloor is the perfect venue for the creepy classics or frightening flicks!

Old school movie theater. They play all the old greats, Godfather, Bladerunner, 2001, Alien etc. The popcorn and drinks are also super cheap. See you there!

Call me sentimental, I have some very fond memories of watching The Wizard of Oz with Dark Side of the Moon playing a few years ago with all my little stoner friends :) Aside from that, they always seem to be playing something different and provoking.
