Flying through the air with the greatest ease
Rated this place:
It’s a bit of a hike for a downtowner (and non-driver) like me to get all the way up to Downsview for a regular, weekly class, but I’ve dreamed of running away with the circus since I was a kid, and even though that ship has sailed, I still like to pretend it’s possible once in a while. The Toronto School of Circus Arts offers regular classes that you can sign up for, ranging from trapeze, to aerial acrobatics, to general conditioning and flexibility classes. It's an amazing and fun workout every time, but for those who don't want to commit to an entire multi-week programme, on Friday nights they have a flying trapeze drop-in class, so you can try it out. The most surprising thing is how quickly you learn to do things that seem awfully complicated when they're demonstrated by a professional. Just about everyone manages the backflip dismount on their first or second try, and everyone is always shocked that they just did it successfully. If you’re scared of heights, this is one really fun way to get over it. The experience provides party anecdotes that last for weeks.
