Bookish goodness

Rated this place:

It's easy to forget, once you leave school, that the reference library exists. But for researching, it can't be beat. The incredibly helpful staff will help you track down past issues of magazines, movies, music, newspaper articles, archive photos, and, of course, books. It's almost better than the internet! Actually, it is better than the internet, they have dozens and dozens of terminals connected to the internet. As an aside: A shout out here to the Toronto Public Library system, which is truly awesome, and allows you to order online almost any book you can think of, and they'll deliver it to your local branch. Seriously, service like that can't be beat.

I'm desperately in love with everything about this beautiful flagship of the Toronto Public Libraries. Architecturally, it's lovely to look at and easy to navigate. And as a library, it's very comprehensive and has some of the most knowledgeable and friendly staff around.

As a student at U of T, I used to love having access to Robarts and the other fabulous libraries on campus. Now that I'm just a book loving civilian, I'm happy to say that the Toronto Reference Library has pretty much anything I'm ever looking for, no matter how obscure or hard to find. Plus, the open, spacious layout and loads of natural light make it a pleasant place to browse, study, whatever.

It's less complicated than Roberts (which looks like an evil lair).

Library

Rated this place:

Go online and you can search and reserve resources from any library in Toronto and they will ship it to your local branch for you to pick up. It's a lot of fun to reserve a great book, forget a couple of weeks later, and then have the library call you to tell you it's ready for pick up. This is how I discovered graphic novels (go for Sacco's Gorazde, Tezuka's Buddha, and Miyazaki's Nausicaa). Read now (also you can borrow movies).

I go online, I request a book, and a few days later, the computer voice calls me and lets me know the book is ready at my local branch.
