Burger goodness at a great price, North York

Rated this place:

Burger Hut Foods Ltd

In a plaza where the shops have changed hands, brands and specialities so many times in the past 10 years, the one thing that remains the same is Burger Hut. A busy spot both day and night, if you've got a burger craving, this is the place to go - for a quick sit down or take-out.

For almost 40 years, Burger Hut has proven to be one of Toronto's top burger joints, time and time again. In fact, when you walk into Burger Hut and you'll see one newspaper clipping after the next framed on the wall, dating back to 1997 timetabling its recognition on Toronto's food scene. Even Chef Mark McEwan (Bymark, North 44, One), maker of the $40 "Gucci" burger at Bymark, is known to love Burger Hut's burgers.

Burger Hut offers a variety of burgers: 1/4lb or 6oz burgers, double burgers, fish and chips, gyros on a pita, steak on a kaiser, salads, breaded veal/chicken on a bun/burger and a speciality: boerewors sausages, a traditional South African sausage. Get a deliciously juicy and tasty 1/4 lb burger with fries for $5.85 or the 6 oz steakhouse burger with fries for $$6.95. Great selection of toppings accompany a great burger.

New Owners Ruin a Classic Burger Joint

Rated this place:

I stopped by for my regular Burger Hut fix and was surprised to see two teenagers working the grill. They told me that the business was sold and the old owners no longer work there. I ordered my usual steakhouse burger but it was terrible...totally different than before. Very disappointing!

A Pleasant Find

Rated this place:

Burger Hut Foods Ltd

It's not an amalgam of Burger King and Pizza Hut as the name might suggest.Burger Hut is more like an old-school burger joint with nothing fancy about it. But that's cool because these guys are all about burgers. I tried their quarter pounder and they cook it fresh. The fries are also fresh. The toppings...fresh. I heard the steakhouse burger (which I have yet to try) is also popular...and fresh. The white fluorescent lighting only adds to the old diner atmosphere like back in the 70s... maybe the early 80s. Whatever the decade, it's a nice change from most of the big franchise restaurants that are trending toward a more contemporary/futuristic look and feel.Burger Hut is small. It only seats 20. When I went for dinner there a couple of nights ago, I was genuinely surprised the place was almost full. But that was before I tasted the burger.
