The buns - the one reason to go there - are almost invariably excellent. As for the atmosphere I like the indifference of the staff who seem to be concerned more with the food than with the customers. (You can watch them make the buns if you so like).

I never knew you could put soup in a dumpling

This small, no-frills place on Dundas just west of Spadina offers a wide variety of dumplings (served by the dozen) and larger buns (served in fours or fives) so it's easy to go in with a group of people and get carried away ordering delicious and incredibly reasonably priced snacks. Before you know it, you're so full of buns they have to roll you out the door.The soup filled dumplings are a definite favourite but a bit tricky to eat because the soup inside is very hot, so you either have to face the risk of spilling it everywhere or wait until they're quite cool before popping the entire thing into your mouth. One of the best super-cheap menu items is essentially a Chinese version of a pulled pork sandwich on something resembling an English muffin. It's seriously delicious. Definitely a place to go if you're in the mood for a whole lot of pork.
