There's a food-shaped hole in my heart. I aim to fill it.

Carlton Cinemas (CO)

Rated this place:

20 Carlton St., Toronto, ON, M5B2H5

Movie theatre: I've seen some great movies here. I think that it's the perfect size for watching a documentary or foreign film. It has the feel of an independent cinema, and they play small and large-release films. The theatres spaces are small and intimate.

Latin America Emporium

Rated this place:

243 Augusta Ave, Toronto, ON, M5T2L8

Tamales and pupusas: I've been eating there for a few years. Although it's a bit of a wait to get served, has little eating space, and gets chilly in the winter, it's still my favourite. Although you can get the same foods at two or three other stores on the block, I find these taste the best. While I wait, I love browsing the unfamiliar ingredients on the shelves...

Okonomi House

Rated this place:

23 Charles St W, Toronto, ON, M4Y2R4

Japanese restaurant not serving sushi: Okonomiyaki are an underappreciated, simple Japanese dish. This restaurant has the look and feel of a small family restaurant or bar in Japan. The okonomiyaki are delicious and can be made vegetarian, the green tea is delicious and cheap. A great place to go before a matinee at the varsity or cumberland.

Bitondo Pizzeria

Rated this place:

11 Clinton St, Toronto, ON, M6J2N7

Panzerotto: It contains so much cheese that you feel like you're going to choke with every bite. The place has pasta e fagioli on the menu. To me it feels like I imagine Little Italy did when it was still Italian.

Kaiseki Sakura

Rated this place:

556 Church St, Toronto, M4Y 2E3

Fine dining - japanese

Fine dining - japanese: They use high-quality ingredients, and they present the dishes artistically. Their 5 course vegetarian tasting menu was incredible. Panko shrimp with yuzu foam, whole wasabi root, adzuki-green tea cheesecake and too many other delicious ingredients and garnishes to mention. A great place for a special occasion.

Massimo Pizza & Pasta

Rated this place:

302 College St., Toronto, ON, M5T1R9

Pizza slice: It's simple and delicious. Extra greasy and extra thin, the Margherita is my slice of choice. Before the restaurant makeover, it had oldschool "Italian" charm with newspaper articles framed on the wall (I never figured out why Susan Aglukark was so prominently featured) and checkered plastic tablecloths. I haven't been in since they got their new look, but if the pizza tastes the same, I'll definitely go back.

Utopia Cafe & Grill

Rated this place:

586 College St, Toronto, ON, M6G1B3

Veggie burger: I haven't been disappointed with any of their vegetarian sandwiches. They do a great veggie chicken club, substituting the bacon for grilled eggplant. Their veggie souvlaki and veggie burger are hard to beat, and portions are huge.

Ten Editions Books

Rated this place:

698 Spadina Ave, Toronto, ON, M5S2J2

Bookstore: I can spend quite a while in the back of the store looking at their children's books and canadiana, and leafing through the card catalogue of old postcards, photographs and buttons.

Rated this place:

Get Real Cafe

Rated this place:

135 Ossington Avenue, Toronto, ON, M6J 2Z6

Vegetarian breakfast: Although I don't know if it's still open, I had several wonderful vegetarian brunches there over the summer. It's decorated in light colours, has a serve-yourself coffee bar and does a great scrambled tofu.

The Boat

Rated this place:

158 Augusta Ave, Toronto, ON, M5T2L5

Dance club: It's dark and cozy and just the right size. I've been there for shows and dance parties of all types, and everything seems to fit there. The bartenders are sweet and it hosts a few interesting evenings.

Buddha's Vegetarian Foods

Rated this place:

666 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON, M5T1H9

Vegetarian chinese food: Anyone that can make food as addictive as this without garlic or onions must be holy. I almost threw up with happiness when I ate an entire order of fake duck to myself.

Brar Sweets & Restaurant

Rated this place:

199 Advance Bl, Brampton, ON, L6T4N2

Indian buffet: It's an incredible amount of food, all vegetarian and all delicious. They have a small selection of Hakka foods, Tandoori at dinner time, great desserts and appetizers, a take-away sweet and thali section, and dishes of varying spice levels. My record is 5 refills of kheer. Just try and beat it. Fave within the fave: Paneer with cashews.

Rated this place:

Lee

Rated this place:

603 King St. W., Toronto, ON, M5V1E1

Fine dining: Everything was perfect. They offered a 7 course vegetarian tasting menu in which each diner recieved a different dish for each course. So 14 different stunningly presented fusion dishes between a pair of diners. My first, and still favourite fine dining experience.
