Mountain Equipment Co-op

Rated this place:

400 King St. W., Toronto, ON, M5V 5K2

Outdoor store: They have really, really, really high-quality innovative, efficient and great-looking gear. its a little pricier but i find it to be great bang for one's buck, especially if you shop out-of-season.

Game Centre

Rated this place:

730 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON, M4Y 2B7

Video game shop: This place gets the newest, the rarest, the oldest, and the best games at amazing prices. they had Killer Instinct Gold for the N64, they have rare japanese imports. They know their games and their stock. Its often quite busy because of word of mouth, even though its kind of hidden. Check it out :)

Szechuan Szechuan Fine Chinese Cuisine

Rated this place:

100 King W, Toronto, ON, M5X1K7

General tso chicken: Its divine. one of the best recipes for this dish i've tasted, served piping hot and fast. i've tried to emulate the dish myself, and feel it must be a multi-step process with the battering + marinating + cooking taking place at different times. so good, tasty and filling :) enjoy.

Winners

Rated this place:

17890 Yonge St, Newmarket, ON, L3Y 8S1

Eliot's Bookshop

Rated this place:

584 Yonge St, Toronto, ON, M4Y1Z3

Used bookstore

Used bookstore: Not only is it a nice break from BMV, its usually much less crowded and with all kinds of tough to find tomes. 3-4 floors hold tons of books, and its rickety steps always give me a chuckle. highly recommended.

Old Curiosity Tea Shop

Rated this place:

91 Main St N, Markham, ON, L3P1X7

Sit-down tea experience

Sit-down tea experience: It is such a different, beautiful experience. the atmosphere is great, the building is a renovated historical site. the service is impeccable and the teas, oh the teas. they bring your tea around to let you inhale it before brewing and graham (a server) makes excellent recommendations. the food is delicious (try the potato and parsnip soup -- uncannily yummy), and the desserts/scones are not to be missed. a great interesting date spot. great place for a date.

Casa Loma

Rated this place:

1 Austin Terr, Toronto, ON, M5R1X8

Mid-day break from the city: Its beautiful and once on the grounds one feels secluded and peaceful. its a wonderful place to just spend some time and experience something a little out of one's routine (unless your routine happens to be at casa loma.)

Baton Rouge Restaurant

Rated this place:

216 Yonge St (Eaton Centre), Toronto, ON, M5B1N5

Back ribs: They fall off the bone. literally. i had difficulty eating them with a fork because they were so tender that piercing the ribs resulted in shredded ribs :) plus they serve them with hot cinnamon apples as a side dish! their meals are very... rich. *tasty*, but riiiich. so i tend to once a year it,

Tea Emporium

Rated this place:

1592 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, ON, M4G3B7

Loose leaf tea

Loose leaf tea: At the yonge + eglinton location the staff have been phenomenal. enthusiastic, knowledge, and passionate about tea. it makes a huge difference. they taught me a lot, steered me towards things i'd enjoy, and helped me save cash. they have a tremendous selection of high quality teas, and the price is great. for the amount of cups a $5.00 bag makes, you'd pay about 3.99 for the same amount of President's Choice lesser-quality stuff at the grocery store. there's also a nice, cozy sit-down area :)

Baldwin Village

Rated this place:

Baldwin Street, east of Spadina, between McCaul and Beverley, Toronto, ON, M5T 1L1

Quiet street downtown

Quiet street downtown: Its like a completely different world. you go from the heart of china town to a secluded and quiet street with quaint residences and great cafes and nooks, simply by turning a corner. baldwin st. runs from queen st. to mccaul, a bit south of college. it's a wonderful part of the city.

Urbana Coffee

Rated this place:

1033 Bay Street, Toronto, ON, M5S 3A5

Downtown coffee shop

Downtown coffee shop: This is seriously an undiscovered gem. tons of thought goes into the customer experience. *free* wireless internet, ample plugs, great fair-trade/organic ingredients, friendly-not-snooty staff, they try to use mugs instead of paper cups, and you can buy cloth sleeves instead of cardboard ones. -- the spiced chai is wonderful.

Bier Markt

Rated this place:

58 The Esplanade, Toronto, ON, M5E 1A6

Beer selection: Its pretty much all been said :) this is a toronto place to see: astonishing beer selection, delectable foods, priced a little higher than middle class ;) - note: the music volume can make it tricky to talk to large groups across the table. i find it best for a table of 4.

Bhatura: Its sometimes hard to find a good indian place with decent prices, good portions, and high quality food, that also serves the wonderful puffy, rich bread that is bhatura. mmm. plus its close to north york centre station :)

Carnaval Brazilian Grill

Rated this place:

160 York Blvd., Richmond Hill, ON, L4B 3J6

Brazilian grill: Beef, chicken, lamb, pork, all barbeque'd to perfection. Served Brazilian style, sliced to your preference right at the table. Its can be considered a bit pricey but what an experience. Veggie restaurants are nice, but so is this :) mmm. On the weekends it costs more but there are live (hot) brazilian dancers :P and don't forget to try the awesome fresh pineapple-honey dessert on a skewer.

G. Ross Lord Park

Rated this place:

Torresdale Rd. and Cedarcroft Rd., Toronto, ON

Uptown park

Uptown park: Its huge and gorgeous and filled with plant and animal life and looks absolutely stunning in any season. there's main paths and shortcut paths, sports fields, bridges, creeks, ponds, picnic places etc. plus i find really beautiful substantially sized parks a bit tricky to find uptown.

Johnny's Hamburgers

Rated this place:

2595 Victoria Park, Scarborough, ON, M1T1A4

Late night grease pit

Late night grease pit: Tasty food, fast food, greasay food :) grouchy staff (though they are passing the reins onto the younger, nicer, less-soup-nazi-like generation) broken down picnic benches mobbed by sea gulls, bright orange sign, and always busy. open late, and a toronto landmark/staple. need i say more?

Rikishi Japanese Restaurant

Rated this place:

833 Bloor St. W, Toronto, ON, M6G 1M1

Japanese restaurant: It is quiet, relatively little known (for now :P), and raved about by all my friends who've lived in or visited japan. delectable a la carte sushi, sumptuous shogayaki sauce, and divine yakitori are just a few highlights. it usually costs around $30.00 for sushi, appetizers, meal, and maybe a dessert, and its worth every penny. it's a short walk from the christie pits and possibly some of the most authentic and enjoyable japanese food in toronto :) yum.

Tequila Bookworm

Rated this place:

512 Queen W, Toronto, ON, M5V2B3

Random meeting place: This is a interesting place to randomly meet people or select as a meeting place. the walls are lined with books, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and there's internet! woo. they have had a tendency in the past to have art on the walls, and though they are blank at present, hopefully more art will be on there soon (perhaps mine :P)
