Great place to shop, just DON'T ......

Great place to find those rare cd's. If you want to sell your cd's or vinyl, don't bother doing it here. The offer 25 cents to 50 cents per LP and $1.00 per CD. I did sell them 5 LP's, then went back 5 days later to see them selling it for $7.99 to $12.99 each. I found for a place that offered much more for my cd's, called Deja Vu and they offered 2-3-x's more than this place.

Weekly Visits Are Justified

Known to passers by for its psilocybic window displays, Sonic Boom boasts a massive selection of new and used media. Its first floor, flush with CDs and DVDs, could take a few days to traverse, while a smattering of new and collectible vinyl on display hints at what dwells on the lower level. While not a crate diggers dream, this super sized music market does have a modest stock of used vinyl in the basement, mixed in with what is mostly audiophile re-releases of collector classics and current indie gems. Turnover is high in the new arrivals section and worth a look if you happen to pass by. With most records priced $3.95 to $8.95, and gems as diverse as Ornette Coleman’s “Dancing In Your Head” and Flora Purim’s “Butterfly Dreams” in the mix, it doesn’t take much more to justify weekly visits.

It's huge, has a great selection of music, movies and games and is always open when I need my music fix.

Whether you're buying or selling, Sonic Boom is one of the best places to visit. Unlike many independant music stores in Toronto, they are massive in both size and scope. It's a popular scenester passtime to browse the new arrivals (creating the ever-present *click, click, click* of CD cases, which I will always associate with Sonic Boom). Unfortunately, I don't have a vinyl player so I can't spak to the quality of the vinyl's they sell, but I can say that they have a huge selection.

The biggest selection of CD's. I've found some CD's here that I'd been looking for and wasn't able to find anywhere else.

At Sonic Boom it's about the thrill of the hunt! Vinyl, CDs, DVDs, cassettes,... plus video games, and (if they have any come in...) beta, laser discs... you name it. The used selection is HUGE (some organised, some not, so grab a coffee and spend an hour browsing!) and they also keep a great selection of new (i.e. un-used) classics and new releases in every medium. Watch for in-store mini-concerts, too!

While the prices may not be the best in the city, they are usually competitive. For a used DVD/CD store, however, I have yet to visit a place with better selection. I'd love it if you could prove me wrong on the second point!

Hearing the clickkity clackkity just defines this store. Enormous selection at reasonable prices. They recently opened a basement floor where they store their records.
